ForbesNYT “Connections” Tips and Answers for October 22 (#499)

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means: it’s time for another round Connections!

It’s actually a special occasion, as this is the 500th game Connections (not counting Sports Edition). I wonder if there will be anything interesting about the network…

Last time I’ll mention this for now, but I’m planning to start a discussion group (probably on Discord) for Connections and this column if enough of you are interested. If you are, let me know by email, direct message on Twitter, or in the comments below. Thanks to those of you who have been in touch already! I will get back to you as soon as I can.

of today NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, October 23, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will need to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to perhaps help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you may see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

I had a bad feeling something terrible was going to happen with today’s game being the 500th edition and all. I was a little disappointed when I first saw the grid, but a wry smile came over my face once I realized what was going on – even if it meant I was going to have a hard time coming up with suggestions.

Neither the sky nor blueberries are technically blue. So I’m glad I found a way to make the purple data a little tricky. (I spent more time than I should have to make sure the gold is really yellow.)

I figured everything out before sending any groups. As such, I was able to get what I call a true perfect game – getting purples, blues, greens and yellows in that order without error. I don’t remember ever having achieved that before so I was very happy.

There are a few red herrings that almost tripped me up. The green jacket and blue beret almost got me. But writing my guess for each group – I don’t use Google while I play Connectionsbut I allow myself a notebook – I managed to see how everything fit.

That’s all there is for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog for tips and the solution for Thursday’s game if you need them.

PS I’m ditching the horror theme for today so I can slip into this song. An absolute classic:
